Dr. Juan I. Rodríguez H. earned a Bachelor’s degree in Physics and Mathematics and a Master’s degree in Physics from the Escuela Superior de Física y Matemáticas of the IPN. He obtained his PhD (2008) in Química Cuántica-Computacional en la Universidad de McMaster (Ontario, Canada), where he developed methodologies aimed at reducing the computational cost of simulations under Density Functional Theory (DFT).
He subsequently completed two postdoctoral research appointments. The first was with Prof. Richard Bader at McMaster University, focusing on the development of high-performance algorithms for the calculation of QTAIM-Bader properties. The second was carried out at CINVESTAV-IPN.
Dr. Juan Ignacio Rodríguez is part of the developer group of the software “Amsterdam Modeling Suite” (www.scm.com). He is a Level III researcher in the SNII and has more than 2,500 citations according to GoogleScholar (https://scholar.google.com.mx/citations?user=inh4RPsAAAAJ). His academic output includes four book chapters, and he has supervised more than 15 undergraduate and graduate students.
Prior to joining IPN-CICATA Querétaro, Dr. Juan I. Rodríguez served as a research professor at the Escuela Superior de Física y Matemáticas (ESFM) of the Instituto Politécnico Nacional during the period 2010–2022.
Research Line Currently, Dr. Juan I. Rodríguez and his research group conduct theoretical-computational studies based on DFT, QTAIM, semiempirical methods (Molecular Dynamics), and Machine Learning techniques. Their research focuses on materials with potential technological applications in nanoscience, organic solar cells, catalysts for hydrocarbon isomerization and hydrogen evolution, biosensors, among others. |
