Susteinable Development Sustainable development is a situational relationship of balance between socioeconomic development and the environment, guiding the actions required to meet present needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own.
In this area, researchers contribute to social well-being and ecosystem restoration by addressing interdisciplinary challenges framed within the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. These goals aim to strengthen universal peace and access to justice for the benefit of people, the planet, and prosperity.

Two fields of study are integrated—ecology and technology—resulting in the development of eco-technologies designed to mitigate the impacts of climate change through research, technological development, and innovation.
Students in the area of sustainable development join multidisciplinary and interinstitutional teams, gaining the opportunity to apply their academic knowledge and skills to solve problems related to efficient water, food, and energy management; ecosystems and natural resources; urban environmental goods and services; circular economy and materials recycling, among others. Upon completion of their individual program of activities, students are able to propose and evaluate projects with social, economic, and environmental impact.
