TRADITIONAL
PROGRAM CURRICULUM
CORE COURSES
1.- Innovation
Students learn to advance knowledge in their field and transform ideas into real-world innovations. The course focuses on identifying needs, building strong technical approaches, comparing alternatives, and systematizing innovation processes—an essential hallmark of the DTA program.
2.- Departmental Seminars (I, II, III)
These seminars provide a space for collaboration and exchange. Students present their research progress, learn from peers, and engage with visiting professors and researchers who share their experience in science, technology, and innovation. Each seminar is part of the official IPN academic framework.
Elective Courses
Each doctoral student follows a personalized study plan, designed according to their research project, academic background, and advisory committee recommendations. Courses are taken only when they strengthen the development of the dissertation.
Thesis
The thesis represents the core of the doctoral experience. Students develop and execute a research protocol approved by the program, under continuous supervision from a tutorial committee that monitors progress each semester—ensuring academic quality and timely completion.
Publications
According to Article 49 of the Graduate Studies Regulations of the Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN), students must fulfill one of the following publication requirements—each related to their research work—to qualify for graduation:
-
A scientific or technological article published in a specialized journal ranked in levels A, B, or C of the IPN Journal Catalogue, or an acceptance letter for publication.
-
b) A book or book chapter published by a recognized academic publisher, as established by institutional regulations, or an acceptance letter for publication.
c) A patent application or registration for a utility model, industrial design, layout design of integrated circuits, or invention filed before the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI).
d) A final technical report approved by a third party with whom a formal agreement was established.
